Mary Hytken Dumont, 100, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2013 at River Garden Hebrew Home in Jacksonville, Florida. Mary was born June 27, 1912, in Louisville, KY, the daughter of Harry and Ida Hytken.
Mary grew up in Ruleville, MS. She moved to Memphis, TN, raised her family and enjoyed a successful career in real estate. The joys of her life were her daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and University of Memphis Tigers Basketball. One of the proudest moments was when she was the honoree at the Anshei Sphard Synagogue Israel Bonds Testimonial Dinner in 1986.

She was a life member of Hadassah, B'nai B'rith and a past president of her Hadassah chapter. As an outstanding supporter of youth activities Mary had the foresight in being one of the early supporters of the Memphis Hebrew Academy when it was established in 1946. She also created the O. H. Dumont Youth Activities Fund at Anshei Sphard Synagogue

Mary was predeceased by her husband Oscar Dumont and is survived by daughters Harriet (Ernie) Brodsky, Jacksonville, FL; Nadolyn (Kenny) Karchmer, Las Vegas, NV; grandchildren, Randy (Laurie) Karchmer, Memphis, TN; Colman (Rachel) Brodsky, Jacksonville, FL: Melissa (Chad) Miller, Silver Spring, MD; and Kendel (Mark) Bornstein, West Hempstead, NY; in addition to 14 great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 4:30 p.m. Sunday, April 14 at the Katzman Memorial Chapel in Anshei Sphard Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to River Garden Hebrew Home, Jacksonville, FL, or Anshei Sphard-Beth El Emeth Congregation Memphis, TN.
