Sidney Abraham, 91, passed away on September 22, 2013 at home, surrounded by his family. He was born December 4, 1921, in Memphis to the late Sam Abraham and Rosa Weissberger Abraham. He was educated in Memphis, graduating from Central High School in 1940. He went to the University of Illinois, then left to enter the Army Air Corp during WWII. He was a navigator in a bomber, and flew in many missions over Germany. He left the army a lieutenant, and went back to Illinois, graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree. He was happily married to Shirley Shainberg Abraham from 1948 until her death in 2012.

He was a lifelong member of Baron Hirsch Synagogue, and a very active participant. He was also involved in the founding of the Memphis Jewish Community Center. He was a member of B'nai Brith and other religious and civic organizations. He worked for Belz Enterprises for 47 years as property manager. Besides his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Sylvia Abraham Beck (Ben) and Etta Abraham Greenberg (Bill), and a brother, George Abraham (Ceil).

He is survived by his children Sam Abraham and Janet Abraham Kloville of Memphis, his grandchildren Shana Abraham Ziskind of Atlanta, Kathryn (Katy) Abraham of Chattanooga, Zachary Abraham Kloville (Zach) and Macy Kloville, both of Memphis, and 2 great-grandchildren, Molly and Leo Ziskind of Atlanta. The most important things to Sidney were family, friends, community and work.

Services will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 24th in the Sam Abraham Chapel at Baron Hirsch Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Baron Hirsch Congregation, Southern Poverty Law Center, or any charity of the donor's choice.
